Our Structure

The Catholic Order of the Knights of da Gama is organised into three levels: national, regional and local. Three separate bodies take care of affairs at these three levels. These are:

  • A single, central Supreme Council dealing with national affairs, supported by the Board of Directors between Supreme Council meetings, who are in turn supported by the Trustees of the Order between Board meetings. The Trustees carry fiduciary responsibility for the Order and have vested in them rights and obligations with respect to all the movable and immovable property of the Order. In addition, the Supreme Council may, from time to time, create a number of Committees to deal with specific work that might be required, or it may mandate the Board to create such Committees;
  • Six Regional Councils dealing with regional issues and acting as focal points for the Councils in a particular region within South Africa; and
  • Thirty-eight active Local Councils dealing with the general affairs of the Order in a particular local geographic area.
The Regions and Local Councils are organised as shown in the tables below.
